The BMX discipline competition impressed Slim Shady, shown on the ESPN X Games coverage.
Back in 1999, when the X Games were young and not even televised live, the BMX section of this extreme sports championship had several disciplines: BMX Flatland, BMX Downhill, BMX Vert Doubles, and BMX Vert Best Trick. Eminem was sitting in the guest zone, watching the games, and he liked what he saw. While it is difficult to be sure what exactly excited Em so much, that was all Shady could talk about with Chris Fowler, who had hosted all five summer X Games by then.
I’m amped about everything! I’m noticing it looks a lot different in person, when you live watching it than it does on TV. When you see it on TV, you’re like, oh, okay, okay, whatever. But when you see it in person, you watch the bikes trip out! It’s a whole different experience.
Chris Fowler promised Shady that there were even more impressive sites to come as Tony Hawks competed in the Skateboard Best Trick category that day.
