While the “8 Mile” soundtrack album meets another streaming milestone on the platform, 50 Cent’s “Wanksta” becomes the first song on the compilation after “Lose Yourself” to hit a 100 million streaming mark.
“8 Mile: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture” sold over 700,000 copies in its first week to debut at the Billboard 200 No.1. It was released in October, but by the end of the year, it sold 3.4 million copies, which made it the fifth best-selling album of 2002 in the US.
Since then, the album has enjoyed a steady stream of attention on streaming services. It has been making a new 100 million streams every three months this year, going from strength to strength.
Of course, Oscar-winning “Lose Yourself” remains a public favourite. However, other songs are not forgotten. We are talking specifically about 50 Cent’s “Wanksta”.
This song was Fifty’s first single after he signed a deal with Eminem and his first song to make it to the charts. “Wanksta” initially appeared on 50 Cent’s mixtape “No Mercy, No Fear” and then was released as the third single from the soundtrack to “8 Mile”. The track peaked at No.13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No.3 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs.
