Even the greatest swimmer ever can fail a rep, this Olympian legend shows. But he doesn’t stop till he collapses.
Having retired in 2016 with the biggest amount of records and Olympic medals in history, Michael Phelps didn’t stop training and advocating for a healthier lifestyle. Some keep harassing him on social media for supporting a call for vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic, but Phelps is not to be deterred. He posts family pictures, shots from charity events, and, occasionally, short videos from a weight room. Some time ago he boasted his max weight on a squat since retirement, this time, he’s not embarrassed to show a fail.
Recently, Phelps posted two videos from his latest gym session — one showcasing his max rep and the other displaying a failed attempt. Interestingly, the music he chose for each video reveals his mindset. For the successful rep, Phelps picked Eminem’s “Greatest” from “Kamikaze,” while for the failed attempt, he opted for “Till I collapse.”

The most decorated Olympian on Earth has a long and warm relationship with Marshall’s music. When swimming competitively he had always had Eminem’s tracks on his warm-up playlist and he even performed “Lose Yourself” on Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle. And even if it showed that his talent was not in performing arts, that was a heartwarming homage to the artist he loved.
