The big piece in The New York Times Magazine talks about Kendrick’s past and future and takes a look at his creative process. At the moment Kendrick is transitioning from his lengthy collaboration with Top Dawg Entertainment to a full-time dedication to pgLang, a multidisciplinary entertainment company he founded with Dave Free, his school friend, manager, filmmaker, and TDE co-president. One of their recent creative projects includes the video for “The Heart Part 5,” the lead single off “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.” In the article, a journalist traced the video’s backstory down to the beginning: “The seeds of the video’s concept were sown a couple of years before its release, during a time when Kendrick and Dave were thinking about polarizing figures: how people behave in and out of the hot seat; whether a public figure can reveal his flaws and maintain wide acceptance. Dave and Kendrick had a meeting with the creators of “South Park,” Matt Stone and Trey Parker, with whom they’re developing a live-action comedy. Stone, who, with Parker, owns a company specializing in deepfake technology, offered to show it to them. “You see Kendrick turned into Tupac, Kendrick turned into Kanye, and I think we had Eminem,” Stone told me over a Zoom call. He told Kendrick and Dave that they could be among the first to use the technology for one of their videos. On their way out, Dave and Kendrick turned to each other and exclaimed, “What if we did the Jussie Smollett!” The video for “The Heart Part 5” begins with the epigraph “I am. The tagline reads: “Life at the car wash is a place where anything can and does happen to two friends (Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg) trying to earn money to pay their rent”. Marshall’s recent compilation album has received its first certificate in the Northern hemisphere. In early September, New Zealand was the first country in the world to recognise the “Curtain Call 2” sales with the plaque. Artist and producer Teddy Beats posted on his Instagram page a video from Target that shows a man bearing a strong resemblance to Eminem waiting at the check-out. Both got intertwined in a question about features that rap veterans still had not managed to bag in their long careers. All rappers had their answers ready: Ice Cube: Nas, Rakim. I think everybody in their MC life wanna do a song with Rakim at some point. These are the OGs. I think I can do a good song with Busta. Me and him can do a dope song together. A lot of his fans thought that I was dissing him. No, I could never do that. He’s one of the greatest MCs that ever did it and got away with it. He does his job. Somebody had asked me who would win in a Verzuz battle between Eminem and Busta Rhymes, and I said Busta Rhymes. Because Verzuz is about a live performance. I was not knocking Eminem. SNL Comedian Says Eminem Didn’t Want to Rap in Sketch

Jerry Minor is a well-liked actor and comedian, who didn’t spend much time on Saturday Night Live but happened to be there when Marshall made his second appearance on the programme. Marshall made his debut on this sketch show in 1999 together with Dr. Dre. The very next year, in October 2000, Em was invited as a musical guest of his own merit to the opening episode of Season 26. For Jerry Minor that was his debut as a cast member and a writer. Jerry talked about working with Em I the interview with Vulture: I did a fact-check on this: It’s safe to say you’re one of the only comedians to ever rap with Eminem. Can you tell me about how that “Weekend Update” segment came about? At that point, they had shot my intro, but there was no thought of me being in the cast yet. It was the first show of the season, but Tim hadn’t come back. I came up with the idea over the summer and told Horatio Sanz about it. He was like, “You’ve got to do it. They did your intro, so you can be in a sketch anytime you want.” We went to Lorne late one night: “Hey, we want to do this sketch.” He said, “Well, is it something for Tracy?” Actually, Horatio was the one to say, “No, Jerry wants to do it.” Lorne was really apprehensive about putting me on air. We did the sketch for read-through, and it killed. Was Eminem in it at that point? He wasn’t. He was just the musical guest. A lot of times, they don’t even know what’s going to happen in the show until someone asks them, “Hey, we’ve got a sketch for you.” They asked him and he said no. [Laughs.] He does not joke around; he’s not that kind of dude. We did the sketch anyway without him in it at dress rehearsal, and he saw it on the monitors and said, “I want to be in it now.” Because, in the show, we’re kind of challenging him — we’re doing these hokey characters like, “Eminem, you’re not so great.” He’s like, “I can’t not take a challenge.” So he had to be in it! In between dress rehearsal and the show is a few hours, so I had to run down and grab the old version I wrote and put him back in it. I went into his dressing room like, “Can you get these lines right?” I told him about being from Michigan and Flint — he said, “Yeah, come on in, I can do this.” Then he was really into it and was really serious about being funny and doing the dance. That’s how SNL’s long relationship with Eminem started. Since then Marshall appeared on the programme as a guest on May 11 2002, October 30 2004, December 18 2010 with Lil Wayne, on November 2 2013, and November 18 2017. He also made two short cameos: in the Christmas episode in 2020, and in Pete Davidson’s send-off episode in 2022. In just 11 months of 2022 “The Eminem Show” has gained over 1.1 billion new streams, “Encore” took over Revival and Relapse, and “The Marshall Mathers LP” has almost caught up with its sequel. Let’s have a look at the gains of the year. Eminem’s most streamed albums of 2022 are “The Eminem Show”, “The Marshall Mathers LP”, and “Music to Be Murdered By”. Has MTBMB become Em’s new classic? The album is almost three years old and still, it’s able to keep up with Shady’s certified classic. It has even found its way to the Billboard year-end chart. “Encore” deserves special recognition for its performance. Akon’s most streamed song is Eminem’s 15th to earn the milestone of 600 million Spotify plays. “Smack that” was released on September 26, 2006, as the first single of Akon’s second studio album, “Konvicted”. Eminem has not just contributed a verse, he produced the whole song. He is also listed as a mixing engineer, recording engineer, and programmer on the single’s credits. The music video for “Smack That” is even more popular and has already surpassed 970 million views. It is a far cry from the numbers that “Smack That (Remix)” getting on Spotify. The remix was released just three months later on the Shady Records compilation “Eminem Presents: The Re-Up”. The track featured Akon’s unused lyrics and unused beat.
